CENTOS: Sending Email using SENDMAIL, Relay via GMAIL

on request.
To send Email from Linux (Centos) shell using simple mail commands, you need to setup sendmail and use G-MAIL as relay (comes in handy). This was also required in radius manager setup where radius system sends various alerts to user like expiry alerts, quota alerts and my own customized alerting events.
First install required items.
1
yum -y install sendmail mailutils mailx sendmail-bin sendmail-cf cyrus-sasl-plain
Now issue following command to create Gmail authentication file in a folder in which you will add Gmail user name and password.

install zabbix dari tar ball centos

http://bicofino.io/2015/10/09/install-zabbix-2-dot-4-6-from-source-on-centos/

Install Zabbix 2.4.6 from source on CentOS

I'm old fashion and in some cases I like to compile my stuff, Zabbix is one of these cases. You can add/remove features directly with ./configure, and mess around with some timeouts of zabbix_server and zabbix_agentd for example. In this tutorial, we will not change anything on the source code.
We are going install Zabbix version 2.4.6 with MySQL, Nginx and PHP-FPM. This is the stack of what I use in production environments.
Kurt Telep just created a Vagrantfile based on this tutorial, check it out here. Thanks Kurt for the contribution.

Configure the external repositories and install dependencies

[root@vagrant-centos67 ~]# mkdir -p /opt/sources/zabbix
[root@vagrant-centos67 ~]# cd /opt/sources
[root@vagrant-centos67 ~]# yum install -y wget
[root@vagrant-centos67 ~]# wget https://dev.mysql.com/get/mysql-community-release-el6-5.noarch.rpm
[root@vagrant-centos67 ~]# rpm -ivh mysql-community-release-el6-5.noarch.rpm

# Create Nginx REPO
vi /etc/yum.repos.d/nginx.repo

# Add the following below:
[nginx]
name=nginx repo
baseurl=http://nginx.org/packages/centos/6/$basearch/
gpgcheck=0
enabled=1

# Update and install required packages
yum update -y
yum install -y mysql-server php-mysql php-bcmath php-gd php-fpm php-xml php-ldap php-mbstring wget libcurl-devel openldap-devel java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel net-snmp-devel iksemel-devel libxml2-devel mysql-devel nginx vim

Download and install Zabbix

We are compiling Zabbix with java, jabber, libcurl, snmp and ldap support, for more options(IPMI for example) please run ./configure --help
[root@vagrant-centos67 opt]# cd /opt/sources/zabbix
[root@vagrant-centos67 zabbix]# wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/zabbix/files/ZABBIX%20Latest%20Stable/2.4.6/zabbix-2.4.6.tar.gz

Configure MySQL

We will not make any configuration on MySQL, but keep in mind that in production environment you want to configure InnoDB, replication and other goodies.
[root@vagrant-centos67 zabbix]# /etc/init.d/mysqld start

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE MySQL root USER !
To do so, start the server, then issue the following commands:

  /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password'
  /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h vagrant-centos67.vagrantup.com password 'new-password'
...

                                                           [  OK  ]
Starting mysqld:                                           [  OK  ]

# Add a password for root user
[root@vagrant-centos67 zabbix-2.4.6]# mysqladmin -uroot password 'topsecret'
Warning: Using a password on the command line interface can be insecure.

# Create database for Zabbix and populate it with the .sql files
[root@vagrant-centos67 zabbix-2.4.6]# cd /opt/sources/zabbix/zabbix-2.4.6/database/mysql/
[root@vagrant-centos67 zabbix-2.4.6]# mysql -uroot -ptopsecret

create database zabbix;
use zabbix;
source schema.sql;
source data.sql;
source images.sql;

Configure Zabbix Server and copy start scripts

cp /opt/sources/zabbix/zabbix-2.4.6/misc/init.d/fedora/core5/zabbix_server /etc/init.d/
cp /opt/sources/zabbix/zabbix-2.4.6/misc/init.d/fedora/core5/zabbix_agentd /etc/init.d/

# Configure /etc/zabbix_server.conf
For this tutorial we will only change the line 102 to DBPassword=topsecret

/etc/init.d/zabbix_server start
/etc/init.d/zabbix_agentd start

There is a bug in Zabbix when you install from source.
Just run this code to fix it:
mkdir -p /var/lib/php/session
chown nginx. /var/lib/php/session

Start nginx/php-fpm and proceed to install

/etc/init.d/nginx start
/etc/init.d/php-fpm start

Try access http://localhost on your browser

Finish the installation

We are almost done, now we just need to configure zabbix(generate the config file), just follow the screenshots. The process is NNF, if you have any questions ask on the comments.

If you get the error below it's probably because you forgot to configure php.ini file or to reload nginx/php-fpm
And we are done! We have Zabbix installed using a MySQL database and Nginx/PHP-FPM serving the frontend app.

MAP: Helps to have an overview of your infrastructure You can check all of your connectivity in one screen. Needs to be configured. Steps:

  1. TAP: Think and plan (my term!). Think about the criteria you need to relay on. As I want to check only the availability, so I would ping the hosts.
  2.  Add the Template ICMP Ping to your hosts.
  3. Create new map or like me use the exist map (Configuration → Maps)
  4. Add the hosts and change the symbol if you want to
  5. Create a link between your hosts and Zabbix Server and add the trigger you want

Screen: Helps to have quick overview on a single screen. Easy to configure (Configuration →Screen). Steps:
  1. Create new screen
  2. Select row and columns
  3. Choose what do you want to show
More information:https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/2.4/manual/web_interface/frontend_sections/monitoring/screens

Slide show: You can configure that a number of screens are displayed one after another at set intervals. Easy to configure. (Configuration→ Slide shows). Steps:
  1. Select the interval time in second
  2. Select the screens you want to show

Configuring Zabbix (Monitoring tool)

Zabbix-2-0-3-Brings-Tons-of-Fixes-2
Zabbix is the ultimate open source availability and performance monitoring solution. Zabbix offers advanced monitoring, alerting, and visualization features today which are missing in other monitoring systems, even some of the best commercial ones.
Below is a short list of features available in Zabbix:
  • auto-discovery of servers and network devices.
  • low-level discovery.
  • distributed monitoring with centralized web administration.
  • support for both polling and trapping mechanisms
  • server software for Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, OS X
  • native high performance agents (client software for Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, OS X, Tru64/OSF1, Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista)
  • agent-less monitoring
  • secure user authentication
  • flexible user permissions
  • web-based interface
  • flexible e-mail notification of predefined events
  • high-level (business) view of monitored resources
  • audit log
Advantages of Zabbix comparing to other moimtoring tools:
  1. Availability Monitoring (like Nagios) and graphing (like Cacti) is combined into one tool.
  2. Highly configurable. User John may just get an SMS for problems of high severity during the weekend and on weekdays get a Jabber message. Even automatic actions like restarting services can be set up.
  3. The notifications actually help the person who gets the message. “Low disk space on /var on web5” with an additional comment is pretty helpful even when sent via SMS. Notifications are completely customizable with macro variables.
  4. Very performant. A Zabbix agent can be installed on the systems (available for several operating systems – even for Windows) which gathers the information on each system efficiently. The agent can even call scripts or shell one-liners to gather information. This kind of data collection is very efficient. You will need a server with a good I/O performance and a lot of RAM though so that the database can work efficiently.
  5. Collecting items (gather information about system parameters) happens at set intervals. You don’t have to wait for several minutes until you see results (it usually takes half a minute). Each item can have a custom check interval. So you can check for the CPU load every 30 seconds but check the number of free inodes on /home just once an hour.
  6. Fast web interface.
  7. Sophisticated monitoring of web sites. Zabbix can follow a path of simulated mouse clicks on a web site and check for functionality and response time.
  8. Real-time graphs. Values are by default collected every 30 seconds. You quickly see where you are going.
  9. Permissions system. Certain users can be limited to certain views.
  10. Gathered data is stored in a database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite) instead of an unflexible RRD file. Storage periods (aka “history”) can be configured freely. Backing up the database is all there is to be done.
  11. Templates (that can even link to further templates) save time in setting up many checks.
  12. Graphs (plots of values over time) can be customized like which items are plotted and in what way. Even pie charts are possible.
  13. Even the parameters that don’t get an explicit graph can be graphed at any time.
  14. Screens and slide shows can be used for high-level views (aka “dashboards”) or to be displayed on a big geeky display. They can combine textual display of the status as well as clocks, ad-hoc graphs or predefined graphs.
  15. Very flexible trigger expressions. For example you can tell a trigger to fire if the average system load over the last 15 minutes is above a certain value. As all measured parameters are stored in a backend database you can use all kinds of mathemical expressions. Like firing a trigger if the average number of running processes during the last half hour is above 50.
  16. Alerting/notifications can be scripted easily by using shell scripts.
  17. Remote monitoring made easy by using a Zabbix proxy.
  18. Paid support and paid custom programming available. But the software is completely open-sourced.
